The Volunteer Development and Training Project is funded by the Community Fund and became operational in July 2002. The need for the project was identified from Liverpool Community Legal Services Partnerships’ Needs and Analysis report and our own community and client profiling exercises.

The project aims to:

• Increase the number of advice work volunteers and admin. Volunteers at Anfield CAB, Norris Green CAB and Walton CAB, thereby extending the advice service provision to the local community
• To offer relevant training, qualifications and meaningful work experience to both advice work and admin. Volunteers, assisting career and personal development
• Provide comprehensive training in information technology for all staff, enhancing the effectiveness of advice work and improving the skills and experience of individuals
• Extend our advice work training programme to meet the needs of our own staff, both paid and voluntary, and the staff of other local advice agencies, helping to improve the quality of advice across the area
• Provide locally-based community and individual learning opportunities, responding to local need and utilising the knowledge and experience of bureau staff

Some of the things that the project will do include:

• Recruiting, training and supporting additional advice work and admin volunteers
• Providing training and experience in IT, upgrading our computer systems and commissioning network administration services
• Delivering an annual training programme for advice workers and also providing regular community education events open to other community and voluntary organisations
• Updating training equipment and facilities
