The Access to Advice Project started in May 2003 and was initiated by the Citizens Advice Bureau in Liverpool.
The project provides advice, information and representation to clients who have poor mental health AND who may:
The service is free, independent, impartial and confidential. It will ensure clients have access to the advice and information needed to fully access the services available to them.
The project will focus on income maximisation with particular reference to welfare benefits, debt and housing.
Three caseworkers have now been appointed and are based in Toxteth CAB, Garston CAB and Anfield CAB. The project will be delivered in a variety of ways, but initially through day centres within the city boundaries.
The project has been set up in response to research, which has identified that people with poor mental health fail in significant numbers to obtain their full entitlement to benefits and services available to them. This dedicated and targeted service will enhance the income and therefore the quality of life of a significant number of people.
Currently, clients can only access the service through referral from a relevant agency.
Appointments will be arranged at an appropriate venue to suit. It may also be possible to arrange home visits
